write now!

Write Now! is a writers' group that meets in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England twice a month.

The Anthology continues to dominate our thoughts. We have a draft cover, thanks to Oliver Kemp for his efforts. Tereza is drawing up a proposal, which won't be as difficult as squeezing the information out of me (sorry Tereza). Elsewhere typesetting is in progress, and a marketing plan is being forged in darkened corners (or wherever Carolyn & Eleanor lay their laptops).

Satisfyingly, the next meeting of the group is on Tuesday 27th July, at the usual place (for details contact me) from 7.30pm-10.00pm

The Ant-Lion
Tony Irvin's The Ant-Lion is still available at Waterstones Buttermarket store in Bury St Edmunds. More about Tony and The Ant-Lion is here.

News

Michael Morpurgo is coming to Bury St Edmunds, 2pm on Wednesday 1st September. I've never seen him but I gather he is a terrific raconteur, so tickets will be in demand. You can get them locally from Waterstones Bookstore (the Buttermarket one).

Congratulations to Rosie Phillips for being one of the runners up in the Writing Magazine short story competition.  Members may remember the opening line: To be honest I am not very happy with my own company.  Well done, Rosie!

The winners of the Short Story Competition 2009 have been announced. Details here.

A couple of our members have their own websites - visit the members page to find out more.

About us

Write Now! was founded in 2004 by Claire Frank and George Wicker.

Our aim was to create an informal group that encourages its members to write, improve their writing and get work published.

Members are required to be working seriously on writing: either poetry, fiction (short stories or novels) or non-fiction. Here are some guidelines for prospective members.

Write Now! has grown steadily since its inception, and we we have 14 subscribed members. We regularly invite guests to speak at meetings. In 2007 we ran our first short story competition, which has now become a biennial event.

If you are interested in joining the group, please phone or email George (01284 767734) or David (01284 747238) for more information
